Ambassador Knapper Calls 2024 a “Significant Year” for US-Vietnam Relations. Ambassador Marc Knapper described 2024 as a “significant year” for US-Vietnam relations. “We have achieved important milestones, strengthened our Comprehensively Strategic Partnership, and worked towards a shared future of prosperity and security,” he said.

The Ambassador noted that US-Vietnam relations have seen “transformative progress.” Over the past decade, trade between the two nations has quadrupled, rising from $30 billion to over $120 billion. In September, the US Agricultural Delegation made its largest-ever visit to Vietnam. The US also transferred the first five T-6C training aircraft to Vietnam and announced $12.5 million in funding to enhance maritime safety, underscoring Washington’s commitment to regional peace and security.

“Opportunities for collaboration are opening on both sides of the Pacific,” he emphasized.

Additionally, the Ambassador highlighted several joint projects aimed at environmental protection and climate resilience in Vietnam, such as the Mekong Delta Coastal Habitat Conservation Project and initiatives promoting environmentally friendly agriculture.

Ambassador Knapper also acknowledged successes in educational cooperation, including the launch of the Industrial Workforce Development Acceleration Program for the Semiconductor Industry (ITSI-CHIPS), which helps Vietnam build a globally competitive, world-class workforce.

Over the past year, the US has supported Vietnam in addressing the aftermath of war and responding to natural disasters, including Typhoon Yagi.

Marking 2025 as the 30th anniversary of US-Vietnam diplomatic relations, Ambassador Knapper expressed confidence that the bilateral partnership would continue to grow robustly.

“Together, we will seize new opportunities, address global challenges, and build a prosperous, stable, and secure future for all,” he concluded.
