Mr. Marc Knapper described 2024 as a “meaningful year” for Vietnam–U.S. relations. “We have achieved important milestones, strengthened the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and built a shared future of prosperity and security,” he said.
The Ambassador noted that Vietnam–U.S. relations have witnessed “transformational progress.” Over more than a decade, bilateral trade has quadrupled, increasing from $30 billion to over $120 billion. A U.S. agricultural delegation made its largest-ever visit to Vietnam in September. The United States also delivered the first five T-6C training aircraft to Vietnam and announced $12.5 million to enhance maritime security, as part of Washington’s commitment to regional peace and security.
“Opportunities for cooperation are opening up on both sides of the Pacific,” he emphasized.
In addition, the Ambassador also outlined several cooperative projects aimed at protecting the environment and strengthening climate resilience in Vietnam, such as the Mekong Delta Coastal Habitat Conservation Project, as well as initiatives promoting environmentally friendly agriculture.
According to the Ambassador, education cooperation between the two countries has also achieved significant success, including the launch of the ITSI-CHIPS Semiconductor Workforce Acceleration Program, which helps Vietnam develop a world-class workforce capable of competing globally.
In addition, over the past year, the United States has also supported Vietnam in post-war remediation efforts and disaster response, particularly in relation to Typhoon Yagi.
Emphasizing that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, Ambassador Knapper expressed confidence that bilateral ties will continue to grow strongly.
“Together, we will seize new opportunities, address global challenges, and build a prosperous, stable, and secure future for everyone,” he said.
